August Finds

August 29, 2017

By a happy accident, most of the products we’ve selected for this month’s Finds have a musical theme. Of course, there’s always room for a good chair, or a beer from the world’s 5th best brewery.

Cassette tapes from Quiet Time

£11.99

Fortunately, the cassette tape still has an army of loyal fans; among them, online music store Boomkat and label Quiet Time Tapes. The tapes come packaged in a clamshell-style case, and include an extra tape for you to give to a friend as a gift — a lovely concept to encourage that old-fashioned way of sharing music that is fast becoming a thing of the past. Their two most recent tapes include music from NYC’s Solpara, which Boomkat describes as “a lucid dream of crisp and melting hyaline structures”, and Hamburg’s Phil Struck, with music that Boomkat describes as delivering “an acousmastic session of grayscale tones and organic electronics”.

Beers by Cloudwater

From £3.50

We’re huge fans of Cloudwater and the Manchester-based brewery seem to be going from strength to strength, now ranked as Rate Beer’s 5th best brewery in the world. Shortly before posting this edition of Finds we heard from our friends at Beermerchants that Cloudwater’s eight most recent beers are now in stock, so we thought we’d give them a mention before they all sell out.

Vibrato wall art

$250

Music doesn’t have to be just something your ears can enjoy — you can transform your favourite song or sound into a work of art for your wall. You can order a print of your chosen sound by uploading it to Vibrato’s site, going through the payment process, and then waiting for an email from Vibrato within two to three days. The email will show you a sample of your print, which the company will have transformed into visual art from the sound. This will give you the chance to give a yay or nay on what you see, and if you like it, Vibrato will go ahead and get it printed for you. For more specs, visit their site.

Platform desk by Output

From $549

Audio software company Output set about making a centrepiece for the musical studio space, and they came up with Platform — a uniquely tailored desk for music production. Included in the desk is a bridge for studio monitors, 9U of rack space, cable management that’s neatly tucked away out of sight but still within easy reach, and an optional pull-out keyboard tray. Each desk has been made from birch wood from renewable sources.

Ollie Chair by Rock Paper Robot

For anyone who needs an aesthetically pleasing, comfortable chair that can be folded away to fit in a compact space, you should take a good look at the Ollie Chair. Designed to be used indoors or outdoors, the slatted wooden seat folds out completely flat to take up minimal space when not being used. The curve of the chair makes it a pretty comfortable seat — as well as rather nice to look at.
