Lagom #6

With Lagom issue 6, we’re unveiling our new look: a new size, a new cover format, a revised typographic system, a number of refinements to our layout, and — above all — a decision to let the magazine’s photography really shine.

Unlike many other lifestyle magazines, who aim to sell readers an unattainable dream, we aim to inspire and motivate with genuine stories of creatives who’ve bravely set out on the road to independence, and to showcase destinations and products that are united by a love of quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and an entrepreneurial spirit. We celebrate creative communities across the world — some of which have already earned their place on the map; others of which are in the process of doing so.

Person, place, or product, we celebrate those who dare to follow their own visions — and do so with their feet on the ground.

Lagom is perfect-bound and printed on uncoated stock (300gsm cover, 140gsm interior), with a foil-blocked cover. Issue #6 contains 156 pages.

Design for Life

We speak to Erica Jung – one half of Brazil-based type design duo Pintassilgo Prints, along with Ricardo Marcin – whose time is spent juggling family life, work, musical hobbies, and outdoor life. Surely being pulled in so many different directions should be stressful, yet Erica’s refreshingly positive outlook on life is infectious. We were curious to find out how she's able to balance her time among so many demands.

A New Design on Fair Trade: The Anou, Morocco

Although tourists have come to expect a certain style and look from the Moroccan products that line the souks, their patterns and designs often don't leave their makers feeling creatively fulfilled, or financially rewarded for their work. Enter The Anou – the organisation working to turn this around, empowering and enabling Berber artisans in Morocco's poorest areas.

History in the Making

Drawing inspiration from the ancient craft of jewellery making, Melissa Frost of Pittsburg-based jewellery studio Frost Finery speaks of the benefits of embracing age-old techniques, while combining them with modern technology.

Beavertown: the Art of the Can

In just five years, Beavertown has become highly regarded in the craft beer industry, but it's impossible to utter the brewery's name without also conjuring the image of its highly stylised cans. Adorned by the vibrant illustrative talents of the brewery's in-house Creative Director Nick Dwyer, Beavertown's beautiful, matte-finish cans have helped popularise the format and represent the brewery's passion for heightening the experience of beer.
