Snickarbacken 7 — Stockholm, Sweden

May 18, 2017

What were formerly stables in the late 1800s now stand as one of Stockholm’s most notable attractions for those in pursuit of the perfect cup.

Burrowed between the borders of Östermalm and Vasastan, Snickarbacken 7 is the perfect hideaway from the high street. Makeshift wooden benches, an oil drum table, and an archway reading ‘GARAGE’ is invitation enough to step inside a seemingly modest café. A long stretching corridor running deep into the city’s orange brickwork is reminiscent of a cathedral from times gone by, reinvented with a touch of Scandinavian minimalism.

Snickarbacken hosts a gratuitous offering of specialty coffee, made with the delicious beans of Stockholm Roast running through the espresso machine. If a flat white isn’t your thing, an extensive array of brewing methods are available, for that classic cup of Nordic filter.

Expect a visit here to be one of many. A classic café menu with a slight Australian influence had us hooked in a heartbeat. After all, who could possibly refuse a perfectly constructed avocado toast?

The skilled hands of Snickarbacken’s baristas serve no drink short of perfection. Each cup being the perfect display of their talent, passion, and understanding of their craft.

Whether it’s a solo sip on an espresso and a copy of your favourite paperback, or a candlelit cappuccino with friends and loved ones, it’s rare to find a space so accommodating to so many.

Fika doesn’t simply end at the last drop of Per Nordby’s batch brew. Glowing neon signs from the front of the building light the way to the space’s widely renowned concept store.

The retail area gives opportunity to pick up essentials for the home barista, as well as independent reading material, high-end skincare, native Swedish clothing labels and many more must-haves for those passing through.

Exposed 18th century walls come lined with ever-changing exhibitions of photographers both established and upcoming. The work of Malin Poppy Darcy Mörner currently hangs proud, demonstrating her impressive expertise behind the lens.

If you’re in search of the ideal blend of peaceful and sociable, bridged together with caffeine in a visually stunning environment, then look no further.
