Using GIFs to sell houses

November 18, 2016

Ah, the humble GIF. A remnant of the early days of the web that disappeared for a while only to return for comedic purposes and stay well and truly put in our online lives, it might’ve just grown up: today, Swedish real estate website Nooks is launching its first ever GIF-powered home ad. That’s right: the GIF is now being used to sell homes.

With tongue wedged firmly in cheek, these charming little animations aim to show visitors what life is like inside the home at Maria Prästgårdsgata 15B. Sure, some might be more gimicky than others, but actually there’s genuine utility at work here, too: what does a room like when a door is opened or closed, or a light is turned on or off?
