8 Faces: Collected

September 27, 2016

Some of you may know that before Lagom, there was 8 Faces — a magazine run by the same team, but about a very different subject: typography.

We published eight issues of the magazine between 2010 and 2014 and now we’re combining them with brand new material and content from our blog, and collating everything into a huge, hardcover book. Re-designed and re-edited, this is the definitive 8 Faces volume, for long-time fans and new readers alike.

However, we can’t do it without your help — we’re funding the book with a Kickstarter campaign

Over the course of 8 Faces’ life, we interviewed 64 graphic designers, web designers, illustrators, and artists, and set some beautiful type specimens for their eight favourite typefaces. We also published forewords and essays by a number of thought-leaders in the design industry, making 8 Faces a source of knowledge as well as inspiration.

The design of the magazine evolved from issue to issue, and from time to time we even found things we wanted to improve upon in retrospect: colour tweaks, additional footnotes, the occasional typo. That, combined with the fact that so many people missed out on back issues, seems like a great reason to create a book.

8 Faces: Collected is going to be costly to produce and we have a lot of work ahead of us, but with your support — no matter how small — we know that we can create something truly special.
